Alternatives to our Life

We don’t want to think about it, we shouldn’t think about it and we just think about it when something goes very, but very wrong, but there are alternatives to our lives.

It's healthy what we do: make a choice and live with it, repeatedly, and when we look back only a few times we are critical about the choices we made, not because we think we are incapable of making mistakes, but because we know we can’t go back in time and we realize that it is pointless to go after what has gone.

Think about it, the times you said yes instead of saying no, the times you said no instead of saying yes, the times you decided to stay instead of going, the people you could have kept close to you but you didn’t, the choices that you could have done but didn’t, everything could have been different, not that this is necessarily positive.

But consider also the following, if you are alive, if you are reading this, that means you still have the possibility to make choices or to change the choices you made (the ones that can still be changed) for better choices. Don’t be afraid, if you think you chose the wrong profession, if you are unhappy with what you do, go back to school, get a new course, make a new choice, if you chose the wrong girlfriend or boyfriend, if your relationship only brings headaches, undo that choice and be available for a new love.

The truth is that your life, this life you live today, is like a house, a mansion if you prefer, that you built block by block, and where each block are the choices you made and the choices that were made for you. Of course your family, your friends, helped to build it, but the vast majority of decisions were yours and in the end you alone will be responsible for the construction and its owner.

One day, maybe not today, maybe tomorrow, you'll want to take a tour on your mansion and see your work, your great construction, you will walk on the gardens of the romantic relationships that you had, you will go in the living rooms of your former professions, you will enter the halls full of trophies and medals of the most important and decisive choices you made. And believe me, you will not want to find an empty or imperfect house, you will want a palace.

So face your life for what it is, a house that you never stop building, where you will have to live and where you will want to walk, because in reality your life is all you have in the universe. Use the right blocks, and you will see that it will be able to weather any storm.
